Weird A-Z. O is for The Oak Island Money Pit
The most intriguing of all sites associated with buried pirate treasure, with links to Captain Henry Morgan and Captain Kidd, was first discovered in 1795. It is an island on the south shore of Nova Scotia, Canada. A few years later, digging through layers of logs and clay, a stone tablet was found, and it was decoded to read: 'Forty Feet Below Two million Pounds Are Buried'.
Over the years , booby traps and an artificial beach have been discovered, along with an extremely complicated drainage system. Four men died in 1965 excavating the site. This remarkable story deserves more space than this small segment but a google search will yield the full remarkable tale.
