A 54 year-old Japanese motorcyclist rode his bike for over a mile in 2007 before realising that he had lost a leg. It had become detached when he hit a central safety barrier while negotiating a bend. Despite being in great pain he didn't notice the limb was missing until he stopped at the next junction.
